Meet Heather, a Katy twin mama and co-owner of Wild Arrow Photography! Heather is Canadian born and moved to Katy almost five years ago from Australia. Most of the beautiful images you see on our website and social media were photographer by Wild Arrow and we’re delighted to showcase Heather’s amazing talents! Read our interview with her below:
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Katy?
I am originally from Newfoundland, Canada and spent 5 years living in Australia before we moved to Katy almost 5 years ago!
Child(ren) and Age(s)?
I have 5 year old twins, a boy named Evan and a girl named Charlotte!
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I am also a twin, I have a twin brother! 🙂
Favorite local things to do in Katy?
We love getting out to explore so we like finding new parks, places to eat and just fun things to do as a family!
Do you have a favorite family friendly restaurant in the area?
There are a few but right now its definitely Agave Rio – they have the best outdoor kids area and Wednesdays nights is kids eat free (and happy hour) so its a win win all around.
What is your go-to activity for yourself for pampering or for fun?
I like to try to sneak away every few weeks for a mani-pedi, its the small little luxuries that make you feel a little more together when you live in yoga gear!
Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?
As a mom of twins its been always have two of EVERYTHING! Even for things that you would normally not think of I probably have two of – its just better to have to avoid a fight or a meltdown!
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
I moved to Katy when I was a new mom, my kids were just 7 months old and I knew no one. This community was so welcoming and helpful. The people I have met have helped me grow as a mom and we learn from each other, lean on each other – they have almost become my extended family! I am so grateful for that.
What do you do outside of being a mama?
I’m the co-owner of Wild Arrow Photography here in Katy! We are natural light photographers, specializing in lifestyle family, children, newborn, senior and small events. Photography has always been such a passion of mine and it’s been so rewarding capturing beautiful moments in time for this community.
What is the best advice for juggling mommyhood and running a business (or volunteering, working, etc)?
Try and find a good balance so you don’t burn out! So for me thats trying to follow a weekly schedule and setting deadlines for things! I know sometimes life gets in the way and you just need to roll with it!
What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?
After being turned instantly a mom of two I would go back and tell my old self that less is more! As a new mom you are overwhelmed with all the things you think you need and in reality you don’t need half of that! Its amazing how little you need in the beginning! And to cuddle more, I mean we cuddled a lot but you can never have enough!
