We got to chat with the fashionista, Target-living mama about her blog, her favorite things about Katy, and who inspires her most as a mother!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Katy?

I am from Houston and moved to Katy in 2007 with my husband.  We decided to move to Katy because at the time I was teaching 4th grade at Rylander Elementary and we heard wonderful things about the area.  We knew we wanted children, so thought a move near my school was the best move.

You’ve got 3 kiddos (ALL BOYS!) how old are they and what are their names?

I’ve got three wild and wonderful boys!  Bryson, 9 Davis 6 and Weston 2.

Greatest gift about having a big family and being a boy mom?

My boys are truly a blessing and the joy of watching them learn and play with one another makes my heart smile.  I love that they will become best friends and have each other for the rest of their lives.  Being a boy mom is exciting and fun.  There is never a dull moment with 3 boys running around.  We build legos, play indoor baseball, backyard flag football and I am usually a referee to wrestling matches!  They keep me moving that is for sure!

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

Maybe surprising, I have completed over 10 HALF Marathons, The MS150 Bike Ride, and one Sprint Triathlon.

Name one thing you wish someone would have told you before becoming a mother.

That I would never sleep in again! 😉  Being a mother, I have felt joy, sadness, pride and happiness all in one moment while watching my boys grow up and get older.

Favorite local things to do in the Katy area?

Shopping and eating in La Centerra.  The boys love to run around on the green space.  We love Alamo Drafthouse with the kids, but also for date nights!   I love eating at Whiskey Cake, Dish Society and Perry’s Steakhouse for dinner.

What’s your favorite thing about raising a family in this community?

We love the neighborhoods and the schools are amazing.

Do you have a favorite family friendly restaurant in the area?

Alicia’s Mexican Restaurant and Lupe Tortilla are two faves!

What is your go-to activity for yourself for pampering or for fun?

A day at Cinco Ranch Spa is always at the top of my list.  I also enjoy getting mani and pedicures at Allure Nail Salon on 1463.   Shopping in La Centerra and working out at Lifetime Fitness are two of my favorite activities around town.

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?

Not sure how funny this is, but we have taught our boys that milk is on the bottom shelf and granola bars and cereal are easy to reach for early risers on Saturday!  Also, I am a sticky note queen.  I have to see it written down or I will forget, so my car and planner are covered in sticky notes so I don’t forget anything.

Best mom hack that makes your life easier?

Pinterest, Pinterest, Pinterest!  My go to for gift ideas, recipes and day to day hacks!

Tell us about your blog and online community! When did you start this journey and what are your goals with your platform?

I started my blog in September of 2017.  I love sharing mom life, easy recipes, fitness motivation and fashion inspiration.  I love to connect, inspire and help all women feel and look their best.

You’re one of our favorite local fashionistas to follow, where do you find your style inspiration and what are some of your favorite local shops and boutiques?

My style inspo comes from all over!  I love creating affordable everyday looks for the mom on the go, but enjoy mixing in fancy date night looks too!  Rue Bird Market has been one of my favorite local boutiques in La Centerra.

We know you love Target as much as we do. Best tip for getting out of Target without spending over $100?

Is this possible?!? Ha!! Ok, so to defeat Target, I stop in only when I have limited time, so I don’t have a lot of time to browse.  I also make a list of the things I need and try to stay in that section.  Then I treat myself to a Starbucks if I make it in and out and under $100! 😉

How has the Katy community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now, in both with your platform and in motherhood?

Katy is an amazing community!  I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else!  I love my wonderful mommy friends, my girls, my tribe that would do anything to help me or my kids at any given moment.  Also, the wonderful teachers that have loved my boys like they are their own and have given them a positive outlook on learning.

Best advice for moms who are balancing a career or passion outside the home and experience the inevitable and dreaded MOM GUILT?

We all have it!  Do what you can, when you can.  Don’t let things overwhelm you and when you feel overwhelmed, slow down and take one moment at a time.  Give yourself some grace and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Who has most influenced you to be the mom you are today?

My mom stayed home with me and my 3 siblings.  She took care of us day to day and I have never understood exactly all she did until I became a mother.  I appreciate all the love and support she gave us and everything she did for us to make sure we were taken care of.   I also look up to my Mother-in-law, the mother of 4 boys!  She knows all the tips and tricks for raising BOYS!

On your hardest parenting day, what’s something you tell yourself that gets you through?

I remind myself it is almost bedtime! 😉 But really, I remind myself that these moments won’t last long and will be gone before I know it.  Enjoy every moment, from the good to the bad!

Name one thing you hope your kids look back and remember about their childhood and you as their mama?

I hope they remember that everything I do is for them.  I hope they know that they are loved always and no matter what.

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?

Sleep in,  appreciate your down time, and visiting family IS important no matter how busy you think you may be.
