Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the Katy area?
I’m actually from San Antonio but I have lived in Katy now for about 12 years.
You are Dad, too! How old are your kiddos?
I am! My son Ollie is 4 years old 🙂
Tell us about UpFront Home Services! What services do you provide and what areas of Houston do you service?
We are an Aggie Owned and Veteran Founded home services company. We offer Carpet Cleaning, Upholstery Cleaning, Tile and Grout Cleaning, Air Duct and Dryer Vent Cleaning, Carpet Stretching and Repair, Shower Cleaning and Caulking, Natural Stone Polishing, Granite Countertop Polishing and Sealing, Area Rug Cleaning, Wood Floor Cleaning, Water Damage Restoration, Pressure Washing, and New Construction Tile and Grout Sealing. Our company services the entire Houston Area.
What makes UpFront different and unique than other businesses offering similar services?
We offer a more inclusive greener experience than all of our competitors. All of our products are safe and child and pet friendly. We also offer chemistry designed for even the most chemical sensitive individuals.
When did UpFront Home Services “open the doors” and how has the business evolved over the years?
We started cleaning in the Katy / Houston area in 2011. We moved from having a singular unit that was owner operated to having 6 service vehicles and multiple technicians.
When you were younger, did you believe you would end up owning UpFront? And, what made you decide to take on the business after your father passed?
I’ve always gravitated towards business. Growing up my Dad owned retail stores and I spent a lot of time helping where I was allowed. A cleaning service was the last thing on my mind as I really wanted to work for the San Antonio Spurs. But by the time I finished my degree I found myself deep into the business with my Dad, so I stuck to it.
How has your father influenced you in the business and as a father to your own children?
He pushed me to provide the best service possible and not just a rushed job. Unfortunately there are a lot of companies that simply don’t care and just want to collect the check, we care about the service you get.
I learned many lessons from my Dad. The biggest however was to take the time out and be with your family. We live in a very go, go, go society and that causes us to lose sight of things sometimes.
What is your favorite thing about being a small business owner?
The ability to make changes on the fly and make decisions based on what’s right and not just the bottom line.
How has the Katy community impacted your business?
To be honest I want to be able to do more to impact the community but at this time I would say that we are slowly cleaning 1 home at a time.
Advice for anyone wanting to start their own business?
Take your time. Don’t overspend on unnecessary things. Focus on the service end of it and the business will come.
How do you balance being a business owner, husband, and father?
Sometimes very poorly. My best trait is I can focus in and keep pushing and pushing, I don’t stop. In years past it meant a loss of focus on what’s really important. I love my business but I love my family more. I’ve had to adjust some of what I do and not always be 100% available to the business.
Future plans for your business?
This upcoming year we are working to improve even more aspects of our process to provide an even better level of service for our customers.
