We got to chat with the General Manager of the Katy location, Brandie Joy, to learn more about everything the Katy location has to offer!
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the Katy area?
I’m originally from Lafayette, LA and I have lived in the Katy area since December 2018, our 7th zip code in the Houston area after 3 relocations to the area.
Do you have kids? What are their ages?
I have 2 wonderful daughters, Lydia (15) and Molly (14)
When did pure barre open its doors and what was the inspiration behind bringing pure barre to Katy?
Pure Barre opened their doors in November of 2014!
When and how did you come to be the general manager of pure barre?
I originally discovered Pure Barre in 2015 when we repatriated to the Houston area from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I was unable to continue my long distance running exercises due to the damage done to my knees and discovered Pure Barre when a friend and fellow runner posted about attending classes at her studio in Pennsylvania. I needed a low impact workout and was searching for a new community of friends. When my husband’s career had us moving from Montgomery County to the Katy area, the first thing I had to find was a Pure Barre studio to find my Pure Barre community. I began at Katy in January of 2019.
The summer of that same year, I decided to rejoin the workforce after supporting my husband in his career moves for 15 years (3 countries, 3 states, way too many boxes and zip codes!). They had a job posting in their newsletter and I took the chance and applied for and got a position as a front desk associate in June of 2019. By November 2019, I was promoted to General Manager of their Katy and Cypress locations!
Tell us more about barre workouts – how would you describe the workouts and how are they beneficial?
Barre is a low impact but effective workout. We focus on isometric movements, using your own own resistance and minimal equipment. It’s a combination of ballet, yoga, and pilates and we feature 3 formats under one roof to give you a complete cross training workout. From Pure Classic, our tried and true method, our high energy cardio class Pure Empower, and our strengthening pilates inspired workout, Pure Reform, our results are quick and effective. Pure Barre is a great workout to do if you have had sports related injuries as almost everything we do is modifiable, focusing on the low impact method.
At pure barre, what types of classes/programs do you offer?
What makes pure barre unique to other fitness studios?
Our community and being a place to escape to better yourself. We genuinely treasure each and every person that comes through our doors. We are all there for one thing, to be stronger, whether it’s physically or emotionally, or both. The highlight of my day, and I know for so many others, is the joy that I will have when I go to work or to class. You get excited to see your barre besties, you encourage, you laugh, you cry through thighs, but you know you’ll enter a place where everyone truly cares. Having moved from one location in the Woodlands, to Katy, Pure Barre was consistent, it’s true, it’s community, it’s home.
How do you hope to impact the members of pure barre?
I hope that I can help them both enjoy the amazing workouts that we offer, but also feel welcomed and happy when they walk through our door.
What is your favorite thing about managing pure barre?
Besides the people I meet, it gives me satisfaction. I was a stay at home mom for so long, this position came at the right place and the right time. I strive daily to make things run smoothly, to give refuge and peace of mind to our owner, and to make our staff know that they are valued and have the best tools at hand for their job. I just want to continue the enjoyment of making people content and happy. It gives me peace.
How has the Katy community had an impact on business?
As a fellow nomadic person due to my husband’s career in the oil industry, like so many in the Katy community, we all appreciate the changing faces and new clients that grace our studio. Fellow business owners and service providers have also gone above and beyond in our partnerships to bring the Katy community wonderful offerings. Everyone has been truly supportive.
Future plans for pure barre?
Yes! We have some great Pop Up events in the works, in studio workshops and intensives planned, and fun challenges! Things never get dull at Pure Barre!
Any specials, sales, or deals our Katy Moms can look out for?
