We had the pleasure of meeting Monica a couple months ago for a much needed facial and self care time, and we quickly become customers for life. And, not just because the facial was AMAZING, but because Monica has such a kind, gentle soul that made us feel so welcome and comfortable. Monica Nievas is a Medical Aesthetician and owner of her own business: Skincare by Monik. This Puerto Rican born local mom is the best at what she does – she was announced as 2020’s Best Facial Treatments in the Katy & Fulshear Area. She is medically trained, but she also makes sure that your facial feels like pampering. Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the Katy area?
I am from Puerto Rico and we moved to Katy, TX six years ago. This is my first time living outside of Puerto Rico.
How many kiddos do you have and how old are they?
I have one son Carlos and he is 20.
What are your favorite local things to do in Katy?
I am a huge foodie and love wine, great food, and good company. I love live music especially the 80’s so finding a band playing is always fun. I also enjoy having wine with my friends and eating at Roux Pour. I also enjoy going on beautiful motorcycle rides with my husband.
Now that you’ve been through the stage of motherhood with younger kids, what is your best advice for us just now going through it?
Encourage!! Encourage your kids to do better in school, to be better and kind to others. Follow their dreams, to be true to themselves, not to worry about what others think, or how many “likes” they have on social media.
We’re big on self-care for moms, as hard as it is to find the time, what’s something you do just or yourself?
I love to pamper myself and get manicures and pedicures or I get my hair done. However, my true ONE gift to myself is my time by myself to reflect and pray and meditate. My relationship with God is #1.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I hate BACON!
When did you decide you wanted to be a Medical Esthetician? And what inspired that decision?
Truthfully, I was 12 years old. When my mother would go to the spa to get electrolysis hair removal and it made me so curious.
What has your career in skin care looked like thus far?
I’m a Master Esthetician with over 20 years of experience in the Medical Spa field and Microneedling Educator. In Puerto Rico I worked for a very busy plastic surgery practice for many years. When we moved to Texas, I had to start my business over from scratch. I am very grateful for my continued success and I am happy to announce that in just the short time I’ve been in on business in Katy, I was named “best in Katy/Fulshear” for skincare for 2020.
When did you open your own business, Skincare by Monik, and what services do you offer?
I opened in March 2019. Facials, Microneedling, Dermaplaning, Microdermabrasion, Sublative Rejuvenation, Plasma Fibroblast, Lash Lift, Chemical Peels, Skin Brightening, and Much More!
Your skin is beautiful! What does your skin care routine look like?
Morning: Face wash, Vitamin C serum, eye cream (crows feet), SPF lotion
Night: Double Cleanse, Brightening Serum, Eye Cream, Retinol
Weekly: skin masks
What is your favorite service you offer your clients and why?
Microneedling and Hydrofacials! They both greatly increase collagen and overall skin health. It allows for productive results in so many ways.
If you had to choose two skin care products that every woman should use, what would it be?
Moisturize and SPF. Healthy skin needs to be moisturized and SPF prevents sun damage and wrinkles.
Best advice to battle aging on your face?
Always Moisturize and use SPF! Have a consistent skincare regimen at home. Routine, Routine, routine.
