Despite the changes this year, Faith West Academy students are thriving!
Students are thriving over at Faith West Academy! This school year may look different for students in Katy as all public schools, private schools, charter schools, and preschools have implemented procedures and policies to keep their students, families, and staff as safe as possible from Covid-19. But, we have talked to staff and parents at Faith West, and they all unanimously say that the school year is still going great despite the changes. From the first day of school, students and families were able to choose virtual or in-person instruction. The majority of Faith West students have returned in person and the focus of the school year remains the same as it always has – a Biblical worldview and high academic rigor.
Faith West Academy is an accredited, private Christian school for preschool through 12th grade. They provide a biblically based education in a loving, Christian environment, and they have been a part of the Katy community since 1982. Faith West has grown as a school and as a community, but it is clear they have never lost their focus on the importance of Christian education and their outreach in the Katy community. They understand that each student is a unique learner and has different “giftings” and interests. Their SAIL program (Student Adapted Individualized Learning) has the ultimate purpose of providing an educational opportunity that will allow a child to grow in the areas of his or her gifting. What a beautiful concept, right?! We’re always so inspired by schools who go against the ‘norm’ and develop programs that foster a child’s confidence.
A local mom who’s son started at Faith West this year explained to us that her son is so incredibly happy and that FWA is a much better fit for him than the public school he was at prior. She explained how beautiful it is having religion be a part of his education and that his history class includes a historical study of the Bible. She said that this has helped them study the Bible together at home. She is also so impressed with the communication with her son’s teacher; she feels much more aware of what her son is learning and about his progress. This is very much in line with FWA’s ideal that parents/caregivers should not only be involved in their child’s schooling but take an active role as partner with the teacher and administrative team to create the most successful educational environment for their child or children. Assistant Principal Jeanna Bickerstaff believes that partnering and open communication with parents is key to a child’s success. “Being able to identify a student’s strengths as well as their weaknesses early on in their educational career or early in the school year is key to a child’s learning and hopefully to their life-long love of learning. Our teachers excel in pushing students to grow and find success, and the classroom is a positive, uplifting learning environment. All of my children started their education in our pre-k2 class, and they are currently thriving in our elementary program.”
Students at Faith West can begin in the preschool program at age 2 and then continue their education all the way through Senior year on the same campus. Faith West Academy’s Preschool program is dedicated to giving your child a strong Biblical and academic foundation early. They offer a full-time academic preschool program for children ages 2 – 5, which includes a Bridge program. While they do not offer a traditional Mother’s Day Out Program, they do offer a part-time Monday, Wednesday, Friday, preschool option.
