Our Meet a Mom today is Katleeen Muniz, a local mom of 2 and insurance expert. Katleen owns her own Allstate Agency in Cinco Ranch. She has been in the insurance industry since college and moved her office to Cinco Ranch Blvd 2 years ago. Katleen is proud of her small team and passionate about their focus on their customers. She specializes in auto, home and life insurance. We sat down with Katleen to learn more about her passion for her business, her love for the Katy community, and all things mom life.
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the Katy area?
I moved to Katy back in 2008 from New Orleans after my husband’s work brought him to Houston. But, I’m not originally from New Orleans, though I consider myself a Southern Girl and New Orleans a second home, I was born in Peru and moved to the U.S. when I was 12.
How many kiddos do you have and how old are they?
I have 2 kids. My son is now 9 and my daughter is almost 5.
What’s your favorite thing about raising a family in Katy?
I love that it is a family-oriented community and that makes being a mom in the area so much easier.
Least favorite mom job? (i.e. packing lunches, dishes, bath time, etc.)
I would have to say cooking. I use any excuse in the book to order out.
Best mom hack that makes life easier?
Frozen food.
What are your favorite local things to do in Katy? (with kiddos or just for mom!)
Love all the shops and dinning option of La Centerra, the kids love Dewberry Farms, all the parks in the area. So many things to love about Katy!
We’re big on self-care for moms, as hard as it is to find the time, what’s something you do just or yourself?
I am firm believer in taking time for myself. What I like to do is take some time on Tuesdays or Fridays and just either get a pedicure or go shopping. It really helps me take my mind off of things and relax a little.
When did you begin working in the insurance industry and what was the inspiration behind that career choice?
I started working for an Allstate agent when I was a senior in college. The agent I worked for became a mentor to me and taught me everything he knew. I moved up from customer service to office manager while working there. When my husband accepted the job offer in Houston, I knew I wanted to open my own agency. Even though I lived in Katy, my first office was in Houston (a block away from Katy) and a 2 years ago, I moved my agency to Cinco Ranch Blvd in Katy. I have now been with Allstate for 19 years.
What insurance services do you offer?
We specialize in Auto, Home and Life Insurance.
What’s your favorite thing about what you do?
Connecting with customers. Being able to learn about them and have them learn about us. When I first opened my agency, I used to bring my kids with me to the office. I no longer do that since they are in school now, but customers still ask me how my kids are doing. I get to forge relationships with my customers and I love that!
What sets your agency apart from others?
We are a small agency with little- to- no employee turnover, which customers appreciate because they always know who they are talking to. There’s accountability that customers can rely on. We get to really know our customers and they get to know us.
Best advice for moms who experience the inevitable and dreaded MOM GUILT?
I would say try to spend quality time with your kids when you are with them.
When parenting gets hard, what’s something you tell yourself that gets you through?
I try to remember what people are constantly telling me “Enjoy them now because they grow up so fast and they will be out of house before you know it”. That helps me put things in perspective.
Future plans for your business?
We are looking to grow our sales department and be able to really service the Katy area.
