Happy Small Business Saturday! Today we’re featuring a Fulshear mama owned business that’s also a tried & true favorite of ours. That business is Roses Natural! Owner Roseline Okoro grew up in a vegan household with parents dedicated to making products free of chemicals. She started making soap as a child and has a genuine passion for doing it even now!
Roseline is on a mission to change the world of soap by creating chemical free, all natural liquid dish soap that’s good for your skin and good for the environment.
Over the year she’s perfected, tested and refined the recipe until she was sure that all of the ingredients used were as responsibly sourced as possible.
Having tried her dish soap ourselves, we can say it ROCKS! It’s tough on dishes, but gentle on the skin, giving us confidence having it around our family. Her products are affordable, trustworthy, and effective. And we love supporting a local mama who’s so passionate about what she does!
We interviewed Roseline and got to learn all about her business and the hard work she’s put into it over the years. Read our full interview with her below!
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Katy?
Originally from Nigeria. I moved to USA in 2008 and I have lived in Katy since 2017.
You’re a mama, as well! How has motherhood shaped your life?
Being a mom has taught me more lesson than imagined. I have learned to put my kids need first, love unconditionally, forgive freely, laugh more frequently (mostly about their silly jokes), and most importantly, being a mom is my biggest blessing. I have 3 adorable kids.
When did you start Roses Natural and what was the inspiration behind it?
I started Roses Natural in 2012. My desire for what is natural, safe, and cost-effective products for my family is my inspiration. Like I said earlier, having kids changed my perspective about everything around me. I have this little people in my care, who relied on me to make better choices for them every day. I knew right there that I needed to make a product that will be good for them and others.
When did you decide to start selling your products?
I started selling officially October 20, 2018.
What makes Roses Natural so unique?
Roses Natural is unique because our focus is based on using all-natural ingredients that is good for us and our environment. Our natural dish soap is sulfate-free, non-toxic, and plant-based. Roses natural dish soap is tough on grease but gentle on your skin for everyday use.
Tell us about your mission towards providing better, safer products for families that are free of harmful chemicals?
Like many of you, I am a wife and mother. Roses Natural is a company dedicated to using all-natural ingredients free from harmful chemicals. My mission is to provide you with safer products you can trust, because you deserve better. We followed the Food and Drug Administration rules and regulations to better serve you.
What’s your favorite thing about being a business owner in the Katy/Fulshear area?
My favorite thing is the opportunity to meet other small business owners and learning from their experiences.
How has the Katy area community impacted your business?
I can’t even believe Roses Natural was launched in October 2018! My community is part of my inspiration and my safe place. Everyone is amazing! I have made connections with trusted groups of women who have tried and reviewed my product willingly. I can simply talk about them all day. I am blessed to be here.
Without giving away too many secrets, how do you create your products?
In creating my product, timing is everything. You must be familiar with the ingredients and follow a particular process. The process involves 3 stages;
- The first stage is the measuring out all ingredients and lined them out.
- The second stage is the mixing of the ingredients according to stage 1.
- The third stage is to watch the transformation and wait for it to settle.
Greatest joy about operating this business?
The happiness and satisfaction from my customers get me all the time.
What’s one thing you’d like to go back and tell the you before you were a business owner?
Roseline, you should have started earlier than when you started officially.
Advice for anyone wanting to start their own business or leap into entrepreneurship?
There is no better time to start than now. Waiting and hoping will get you nowhere, start where you are, and things will fall into places as you progress. Don’t be afraid to make mistake, it is part of your learning process.
When things get hard, what’s one thing you tell yourself to keep going when running a business?
Quitting is not an option now. Challenges are part of my everyday growth in other to bring the best product to my customers. It is not always easy, but my customers are always happy with my end product.
How do you balance working and family life?
I work with Katy ISD and run my business when I return from work. My husband currently works from home, so he supports as much as he could when I am not there.
Future plans for your business? Are you going to expand beyond soaps or try to sell in store?
Future plan will be to have it in stores nationwide. I also have Hand soap and Multi-purpose cleaner coming soon.
