Meet a Mom: Kaci Mahler, Sensory Kit Mama | Katy Moms
Introducing Kaci, Sensory Kit Mama

If you’ve been following along with us on Instagram for a few months, you know we’ve fallen in love with a new local mama, Kaci Mahler, and her business Sensory Kit Mama, the coolest, cutest sensory kits that our kiddos just love! If you need an off-screen alternative to keeping your kids engaged, entertained and happy you will love her business, too. Kaci is a former educator, so she knows the importance of enriching the lives of kiddos and feels like she gets to do that through her kits.

Originally from New Orleans, Kaci moved to Katy about a year ago with her sweet family and has enjoyed calling this community home. Through her business, she’s gotten to know local moms, even teaming up with other local mompreneurs for local events and will be soon launching a portion of her business where she has a sensory kit bar that comes to you!

Sensory Mama Kits are curated to provide sensory enrichment without overwhelming your children or countertops. All kits include enrichment ideas. She also has a party favor option that are such a fun and unique way to send your guests home with a creative and developmental experience they can use multiple times. The kids won’t even realize they are learning!

Sensory play is great for playtime because it can help develop language, problem solving, and fine motor skills. Sensory play is engaging and calming for children.

It’s been so fun watching Kaci’s business grow and getting to enjoy it with our kids. We are so honored to feature Kaci today and get to watch her business grow. Read our full interview with this awesome local mom below!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Katy?

I am from New Orleans, LA. We moved from Gonzales, LA to Katy 1 year ago for my husband’s job. (although he has only worked from our guest room since moving here…hopefully they will return soon!)

You have two sweet boys! What are their ages and names?

Owen is 3 and Hayden is 9 months. They are so sweet and they are usually always in matching clothes!

Greatest gift about being a mama?

It is my biggest blessing. They give the best hugs and kisses and always put a smile on my face!

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

Dessert is my favorite meal of the day! 

Favorite local things to do in Katy?

We enjoy going to Romp n Roll Katy (we are members and we love it so much!), Playstreet Museum, and all of the neighborhood parks.

We also enjoy shopping and eating at La Centerra! Dish Society and Sweet Paris are some of our favorites!

Do you have a favorite family friendly restaurant in the area?

Local coffee shops are my jam!! I go through drive throughs quite often. We love Humble Grounds Coffee and their community events! The owners are so kind. Can’t wait for my first event there on May 15th! Blackrock and Blockhouse are some of our other favorites. Blockhouse does story time twice a month and it is so much fun!

What is your go-to activity for yourself for pampering or for fun?

I like to get a manicure and pedicure at Polished Nails! I am always up for a wine night!

What’s your best advice for new or expecting mothers?

Trust your own Mama gut! Everyone has opinions, but you will know what’s best for you and your baby.

Best mom hack that makes life easier?

I pack lunches, cups, bottles, snacks, and the diaper bag every night before I go to bed. Mornings are always crazy, so this helps me to be prepared for the day.

Not a hack….but, every morning before school I do positive affirmations with Owen. He comes up with his 3 words to describe himself and we focus on those words for the week. For example, we say, “I am kind. I am smart. I am funny. Mommy and Daddy loves me. Mommy always comes back after school.” This starts both of our days off so much better!

Least favorite mom job? (i.e. bath time, bed time, making lunches?)

Cooking….I can’t stand it and it isn’t fun for me at all! Luckily, my hubby prefers to cook.

Tell us about your business, Sensory Kit mama- what was the inspo behind starting this biz and what makes you unique in this space?

I am an early childhood teacher. This is my first year staying home with my boys. I have always done sensory play in my classrooms and now I do it at home with my boys. I am very passionate about sensory play since I have seen the benefits of it firsthand. I wanted to find a way to enrich the lives of young children even while staying home with my own babies.

My kits are curated to provide sensory enrichment without overwhelming your children or countertops. All kits include enrichment ideas. The party favor options are a fun and unique way to send your guests home with a creative and developmental experience they can use multiple times. The kids won’t even realize they are learning!

Favorite thing about what you do?

I love seeing pictures and videos of kiddos playing with their kits/ favors. It brings me so much joy!

This business has given me a platform to spread positivity, kindness, and support.

Why are Sensory Kits so great for kids?

Sensory play is great for playtime because it can help develop language, problem solving, and fine motor skills. Sensory play is engaging and calming for children. Young children learn best by doing.

Future plans, hopes, dreams for your business?

My dream for this business is that people continue to allow me to enrich their children’s lives through my kits and favors. I plan to attend more events and parties in the future. I really enjoy doing it and I am so thankful for this experience!

Best advice moms who experience the inevitable and dreaded MOM GUILT?

I definitely experience this mom guilt often. But, I always remind myself to give myself some grace! We are all doing the best we can as moms.

Who has most influenced you to be the mom you are today?

My mom- she is an amazing mom and elementary school teacher! She always puts my sister and I first. She is now the best Kiki to my babies and I wish I could move her to Katy.

When parenting gets hard, what’s something you tell yourself that gets you through?

Being a Mama can be tough, but always remember in the eyes of your child, no one does it better than you!

What does community in motherhood mean to you?

Motherhood is the most rewarding and challenging thing I have ever done. Having support through community is so important. It takes a village. When I moved to Katy a year ago, I didn’t know many other Mamas. Through this business, I have already made many friends and I am looking forward to meeting many other amazing mamas!
