Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the Katy area?
I’m a Texas girl and grew up outside the Austin area. My family and I have been in Katy for 5 years now!
How many kiddos do you have and what are their ages?
I’ve got an awesome step son, Everett who is 17 years old. Then I have my own three girls— Brynna is 8, Lila is 3 and Raylee is 2 months old.
What’s the biggest gift about being a mom?
The biggest gift I’ve found about being a Mom is learning to love someone else truly selflessly but also to give myself grace for all my imperfections.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I am a painter! I love to paint landscapes and impressionistic scenes in oil paint.
Favorite local things to do in the Houston area?
I love going to Galveston to reminisce about my grad school and newly-wed days!
What is your go-to activity for yourself for pampering or for fun?
I love going to Summermoon for coffee and getting a pedicure.
Best mom hack that makes life easier?
Be sure to set the coffee pot automatic timer the night before, your early morning self will thank you!
Let’s talk pelvic floor PT- Tell us a bit about what you do and how you help women.
I LOVE talking about the pelvic floor. Pelvic floor therapy is a specialty of physical therapy— we use exercise, manual therapy, habit changes and education to help improve bladder, bowel, sexual function! I work with mostly women and a lot of Moms, although men and children can also deal with pelvic floor issues and need PFPT. I help women overcome leakage, constipation, prolapse, diastasis recti, pelvic pain, painful intercourse and more. I also offer sessions during pregnancy to help with pelvic, back and hip pain and to prep for birth and pushing.
Why pelvic floor PT and who is your perfect candidate?
Pelvic floor PT is so useful during pregnancy and postpartum. I think the changes a person’s body goes through during pregnancy and after birth can be kind of ignored in our society today. But I truly believe moms shouldn’t accept pelvic floor problems as normal. The perfect candidate for pelvic floor therapy is someone who is ready to stop dealing with any of these issues and get back to the things they love about life! It’s never too early or late to start.
Things pelvic floor health can improve (ie lower back pain)?
Pelvic floor health can definitely be tied to other symptoms like low back and hip pain! A strong and coordinated pelvic floor can also improve sexual function and orgasm. 😉
Do you think pelvic floor PT should be offered and talked about more to pregnant women and women who give birth?
Good pelvic floor knowledge and preparation can help prepare for birth and postpartum recovery. I have found that being proactive about this during pregnancy helps Mamas feel empowered headed into birth instead of being scared. I’ve even helped several Mommas get ready for their VBAC!
What are your future plans and dreams for your business?
One of my big dreams for my business came true this summer because I just opened a new office space here in Katy! (I will still be offering in-home visits for those who want them) AND I am sharing this new space with fellow Katy pelvic health PT, Dr. Caitlin of Unconstipated Kids. Later this summer, I am planning on offering Mommy Meet Ups at the office where we can mingle with other local mommas and learn about pelvic floor and women’s health topics from local professionals for free!
Best advice for women who are embarrassed to get a consult?
Please know that pelvic floor issues are so common— even if no one you know is talking about it. If you have a pelvic floor issue it’s not your fault. You didn’t do anything bad to make your symptoms happen. And no matter how long you’ve dealt with it, don’t feel embarrassed to reach out. Whether you work with me or another provider, you will find that pelvic floor therapists are often the most kind-hearted and non judgmental people who just want to make you feel supported to live the life you want.
What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?
I would tell my younger self to stop doubting me. I would want the me before I had kids to feel like she can dream big without consequences and not hold myself back based on what I think is expected of me.
Any KMN Discounts our mamas can look out for?
For the next month, mention KMN when you book your appointment with me and get $20 off your first session!
