Christmas Lights Around Town
For us, nothing quite gets us in the holiday spirit like Christmas lights. The warm temperatures that often grace the month of December in Katy can make it hard to mentally FEEL like it’s really almost Christmas! But you show us some beautiful Christmas lights, our hearts will sore and we’re basically kids again. Watching the holiday magic through our kid’s eyes is the cherry on top and we’re so excited to get out and explore more this year.
As y’all know, one of our biggest goals with our platform will always be to give you mamas the gift of time! And whether you’ve been in the Houston area ll your life, are brand new, or are a few years in and still exploring the area, we’ve got you covered on all the places to score the best Christmas light viewings!
We’ve scoured the internet, social media, asked friends and family, and even had some of our own experiences this holiday season to bring you the very best places in the Houston area to see the most beautiful Christmas lights!
River Oaks
Clearly outside the Katy bubble, but totally worth the drive! We think we finally convinced our husbands to put River Oaks on the must see list so the kiddos can ooo and ahhh over the gigantic, beautiful homes in this area. This area is known for it’s lights participation and giant oak trees with cascading lights. Our friends over at It’s Not Hou, It’s Me recommend a drive down River Oaks Boulevard for the best views!
The Heights
Ah, The Heights- makes us feel young again! Anytime we go into the city for date night, a favorite stop is always The Heights. With amazing dining options and historic charm, this area is also a must see during the holidays! Although Lights In The Heights was last weekend, the entire Woodlands Heights area is beautifully done up with Christmas lights. The ladies from It’s Not Hou It’s Me suggest taking a family walk from Studemont to Beauchamp on Woodland St. and Euclid St.
Pecan Grove
Pecan Grove is a community with over 2100 homes located in Fort Bend County that got its name from all the pecan trees growing in the area and now it’s also known for it’s magic during Christmas! We hear this is one of the best places near Katy to take the kiddos and they even offer hayrides!
Prestonwood Forest
We first learned of this area from our girl Jessica from Signature Sudz, who calls this area home! When we told her we’d never been to this area during Christmas, she let us know ‘We do it up big in Prestonwood’ and we cannot wait to check it out! Hundreds of homes in this area participate and every year there’s some friendly competition for the winning home! If you’re looking for a neighborhood that’s not too far from Katy and has been decorating for over 40 years, this is the stop for you.
Briargrove Area
We call this one the hidden gem! Located between Westheimer and San Felipe and Chimney Rock and Voss, Briargrove is an area that’s easily accessible on I-10 East. Known to be super family-oriented, this area is also known for it’s giant oak trees overflowing with Christmas lights. Nat actually used to work near this area in 2016 and never missed a slower-than-normal, leisurely drive back to her West Houston home during the month of December!
La Marque/Texas City
Although it’s a bit of a hike for us Katy mamas, if you want a light show, you have to check out Magical Winter Lights this year. Often described by its visitors as ‘truly magical,’ we see why this spot keeps making it on all the Must See lists, especially those with littles ones who will be blow away by the elaborate displays!
Cleveland, TX
Located 7.5 miles outside of Cleveland, TX, The Christmas Ranch just celebrated 33 years of spreading holiday cheer. This drive thru light display is definitely on our Christmas bucket list! This holiday treat is free and donation are accepted and given back to a local church to help families in need.
The Woodlands
There are likely dozens of places lit up in this area each year, but nobody quite does it like Dodd Family Holidays. Since 2001, the Dodd family has shared their love of Christmas lights with the community. Each year they spend two to three weeks setting up their beautiful display- a light show set to music that crowds come from all over to experience for themselves.
Magnolia, TX
The Gullo House in Magnolia is a five acre winter wonderland and the creation of Tony Gullo, owner of Gullo auto dealerships. We’ve heard it’s a truly remarkable display of Christmas lights and decorations, and Mr. Gullo even dresses up as Santa at various times throughout the season.
Katy
Christmas Katy us located at 24603 Stoughton Court of I-10 and Pin Oak, this family has been lighting up Christmas for over 12 years. Although they took a big hit from Hurricane Harvey in 2017, they’re ready to shine this year with new additions and displays. Talk about a story of perseverance, not even a 100-year flood will stop them from spreading Christmas joy! This is one we cannot wait to check out.
