Meet a Mom: Allie Mazas Owner of Yardfetti | Katy Moms

In December of last year, Allie Mazas decided she needed to take a break from the corporate world and grind and focus in on kids and family. All of this was wonderful, but shortly thereafter she felt the entrepreneurship tug, wanting something to call her own, and a way to bring joy to others. That’s when Yardfetti Katy/Fulshear was born! Yard greetings to help people celebrate life’s best occasions is something Allie quickly discovered brought her immense happiness, all while being mama first!

From birthday parties, to weddings, to a mom’s night out event, Allie and team can sprinkle any yard with joy. Yardfetti will be supplying the yard signs for our Moms Night out event May 4th at Bowery House and we can’t wait to see what she comes up with! Yardfetti has a wide variety to choose from, which lets customers get super creative!

They have unique, life-sized designs that cater to all individuals and celebrating all of life’s events. From birthdays of all ages, military homecomings, retirements, graduations, first day of school, whatever you can celebrate, Allie would love to add a little “YardFetti” to your home.

We got to chat with this amazing mama owned business about all things motherhood and her business – check out our full interview below!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the Katy area?

Born and raised in Houston, TX and originally from the Spring Branch/Memorial area. My husband and I moved to Katy in 2018 with our then 2-year-old son, Luke.

You’re a mama of two! How old are your kiddos and what’s the biggest blessing about being a mom?

Luke is a gigantic 6 year old with an even bigger heart, and Cammie is my sassy and strong willed 3 year old that will run a big executive meeting one day as a boss girl! They’ve given me so much purpose in life and I am so lucky to call them mine. They’re my reason to keep going and push through hard seasons in life, and I’m eternally grateful for them. They are my why.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I’m a freak in the excel sheets, lol! I would say most people would be surprised to learn that I almost made it to the live shows of the Mexico version of American Idol when I was younger. I’ve always loved performing and music has already been therapeutic for me. It’s crazy to see how my love for music has been passed down to both of my kids. They hear a song once and suddenly know every word to the song.

Favorite local things to do in the Houston area?

Food & shopping are my absolute favorite things to do in Houston. There are so many small businesses in one big city, and we were nervous about moving out to Katy, because we thought it would be mostly chain restaurant and big box retailers, but we’ve been so pleasantly surprised in the short time we have lived here.

What is your go-to activity for yourself for pampering or for fun?

Filling up a tub and glass of champagne while watching Real Housewives on Bravo. Maybe throw in a sandwich that I did not make in there as well, haha. After a long day, week, or month, all mama’s deserve a date night alone to recharge our batteries.

Give us your best mom hack that makes life easier.

“Go ask your Dad”, haha. Honestly, nothing about motherhood is easy or at least I haven’t been able to discover it. Right now in this season that we’re in, I’ve found that having a good village is absolutely necessary. Life is truly better together in community and boy have we truly grown a unique appreciation for that right now. We call them our Firethorne family and I pray & encourage other moms that feel overwhelmed or alone to spark up a conversation with another mom at the park, at the grocery store, or anywhere. It’s always easier when we’re going through it together.

OK let’s chat Yardefetti. When did you decide to take the plunge into entrepreneurship and what was the inspiration behind starting your business?

In December I decided I needed to take a break from the corporate world and focus on being a mom. I quickly discovered that not working heightened my anxiety and knew that I wanted to dive into something to call my own. Especially once winter break was over. As a mom I am the CEO of making memories and bringing the holidays to life and I find so much joy in that, which is why bringing YardFetti to the Katy/Fulshear area is so meaningful to me. I would also love to show my kids that they are capable of anything in this world, as long a they have some tenacity & belief in themselves. I want to make them proud and hope that one day this side hustle turns into my main hustle. God, it would be such a blessing to bring joy in the form of yard signs to other families.

When did you officially launch your business and what’s been the biggest blessing in it all?

We launched YardFetti this month, and have been so thankful for the business we’ve received thus far. We started this month with launching our limited Easter presale orders, among our yard sign rentals, we also do holiday special order signs for you to keep, so that the Fetti lives on.

Our biggest blessing has been getting to drive around the neighborhood and our children point out our yard signs in other people’s yards. They get to see all the hard work we put towards bringing a little joy to others in forms of fun yard signs. Getting to set up the yard signs to celebrate whatever the occasion may be, and seeing the family and kids peep through their window and get equally excited has been extremely rewarding.

What did you do before launching your business?

Before YardFetti I worked at Academy Sports and Outdoors Corporate within the buying department for Team Sports! I was there for almost 7 years and left to work on the vendor side for a small company called RIP-IT sports. Aside from running YardFetti Katy/Fulshear I work for Mattress Firm as a business analyst. Clearly, I love staying busy, haha.

What sets YardFetti apart and makes your business unique?

I would have to say its our unique, life-sized designs that cater to all individuals and celebrating all of life’s events. From birthdays of all ages, military homecomings, retirements, graduations, first day of school, whatever you can celebrate, let us add a little “YardFetti” to your home.

From birthdays, to weddings, you have a sign for anything! What’s been your most unique set up so far?

We were given the amazing opportunity to help promote Wolman Elementary’s 2023 Spring Auction! This allowed us to setup our biggest package offered, which is 4 large signs, along with smaller fetti signs, along with additional rounders that included personalized event information. It was so exciting to setup in our neighborhood and get to drive by our display everyday and hear our kids proudly yelled, “YardFetti”!

Future hopes and dreams for YardFetti?

We aspire to cover a larger territory in the near future, that expands into the Greater Houston area. For now, our hopes are to spread the joy with a little fetti to our community.

Best advice for mamas wants to launch into their own business?

Bet on yourself and just do it! There are so many reasons or excuses that can let doubt start to creep in, but it means more to be in the race than to watch others take victory laps while from the stands.

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?

I hate to admit it, but my mom was right about so many things! Lol.

Who inspires you most in motherhood?

My amazing mother who has faced a lot on her own and did it with so much love and grace, and my rockstar mama friends who I couldn’t raise this crazy crew without.
