Small Business Saturday: MyPlace Early Learning Center | Katy Moms

Business Name: MyPlace Early Learning Center

Interview by Stefany Barboza, Regional Manager

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the Katy area?
I am originally from Venezuela and moved to Katy roughly 8 years ago.

When did you open the doors on your school?
Our first MyPlace location, located in Cinco Ranch, opened its doors for school year 2009. Five
years after, in 2016, we opened our second location in Katy, in the Woodcreek/Katy Mills area.
In the last few years, we’ve been focusing on modernizing and revamping our schools to better
help our Katy families.

How did you get started in early childhood education?
I have been working in Early Childhood Education for about 7 years now. Initially I wanted to
work in a place where I could have my kids with me, and this industry gave me the opportunity
to have both my daughters around.
What makes My Place unique?
MyPlace is more than a school, some of our parents say we are extended family – and we feel
proud about that!
Our philosophy is to develop all aspects of a child’s life, we teach our students so they’re ready
to excel when they start Kindergarten and support families raising their little ones. We offer a
unique Enhancement Program that provides our students lessons in Spanish, Sign Language,
Progressive Coding and Music and Movement. We even have recitals twice a year!

Tell us about the curriculum of the school and what sets you apart from others!
We have our own in-house curriculum named “MyPlace Foundations of Learning” and it’s
aligned with Katy ISD’s curriculum. Our philosophy is to have age-appropriate activities with a
hands-on, STEAM-based curriculum. Our teachers are always reviewing and improving it to
make sure our students are learning to their full potential.

Our main goal is to prepare our students for the next stage in elementary school. Every year we
get very excellent feedback from KISD teachers!

Biggest blessing in being a part of Katy families?
It’s a wonderful community, very family-oriented and welcoming. Katy is a very diverse city and
there is always something fun to do for the whole family.

Best advice for moms when looking for a school for their children?
Look for a place that makes you feel secure, that keeps you informed of your child’s day. The
vibe is very important but also the connection with the teachers and management. At MyPlace
we are proud to say that families feel like they are at “home.”

Future plans and hopes for your school?
We believe in continuous improvement and are always adding enhancements to our schools
and curriculum. We want to keep being a leading early education center in Katy will continue
offering high quality education for our students.
We are actively looking for new expansion opportunities and we look forward to having more
schools in the near future.

Any upcoming local events?
On October 27th we will have our annual Fall Festival in both of our locations between 5:00 and
7:00 pm. It’s a community event for the whole family and friends, come join us!
