Meet a Mom: Lindsay Plum NEAT Method-Katy - Katy Moms

NEAT Method Katy specializes in home organization, unpacking, and decluttering for small spaces to entire homes and offices. From cleaning out your closets to organizing your kitchen, we make your space feel functional for the life you live. And mamas, they sure changed and improved our lives when they helped us with our primary closet last month! Blown AWAY!

Lindsay Plum is the Katy mama behind the organizing brand and she and her team were an absolute dream to work with! Not only did they give us functional organization we can keep up with and maintain, she helped us donate things we no longer needed. The entire process from start to finish was a dream and we cannot wait to have this incredible Katy mama back to tackle another room with us! We were thrilled to chat with Lindsay about all things motherhood and more about her flourishing business! See our full interview below and be sure to grab the special KMN discount!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the Katy area?
I was actually born in Katy! I lived in Houston until I was 8, when my family moved to  Arizona. I grew up and went to college there, then moved back to the Greater Houston
area in 2012. My husband and I moved to Katy to start our family 4.5 years ago, and have loved it ever since!

You have an amazing little boy – how old is he and what’s he into?
Our son, Case, is 3 years old! Other than delaying bedtime and asking for endless snacks, he’s very into trucks and construction vehicles of any kind! He also loves
learning new things. Whether it’s at “school” (daycare), or by watching us around the house, he’s always interested in learning how to do something.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
People are always surprised to hear that my husband and I have known each other since we were 3 years old! Our parents were family friends and stayed in touch when
my family moved to Arizona. In high school, he and I reconnected and dated for 7 years before getting married. It’s crazy now to think I’ve known my husband since the age our
son is currently. This picture of us together is around 1995, when we were about 5 years old.

Favorite local things to do in the Katy area?
One of my favorite things about Katy is how involved everyone is in our community. There are so many small businesses out here that are always putting on amazing
events. We love going to farmers markets, vendor fairs, pop-up shops, charity events, and other similar things around Katy. Its fun for our whole family, we learn new things, meet new people, and really feel connected to our community through events like these.

Favorite local restaurants?
I absolutely love both Humble Grounds locations. But especially the new location in Old Katy, The Gatherings Grounds. It has an atmosphere that is peaceful and healing. I can
get work done, meet a friend or business connection there, it’s family friendly, and people always seem to run into someone they know there! It’s just the most comforting
environment to be in, and I feel lucky to have somewhere like that right in our community.

Give us your best mom hack that makes your life easier.
Being a mom, you often feel the pressure to do everything right, or keep things “perfect”
all the time. Creating drop zones around the house has been a game-changer for me. These dedicated spots, whether it’s an entryway shelf, a mudroom bench, or a basket for toys, allow me to quickly drop things when I come in the door or when clutter starts
accumulating. It takes the pressure off keeping everything tidy all the time and lets me focus on other aspects of being a mom. As a professional organizer, I know the key is to revisit these spots regularly and properly put things away, so our home doesn’t get
overrun with stuff.

OK, let’s talk business. Tell us about Neat Method and what makes your business
unique!
NEAT Method is the premier professional organizing brand dedicated to crafting intelligently designed organizational systems for your home. In the midst of life’s hectic pace, maintaining an organized home can be challenging. Our dedicated team designs
and implements customized solutions that not only prove effective but are also effortlessly maintainable. One of our most unique aspects is that NEAT Method develops and uses our own line of products. We pride ourselves on taking a stylistic and
design centered approach to organizing, creating the perfect blend of functionality and style.

When did you decide to start this business and what’s been the biggest blessing in it
all?
I launched NEAT Method Katy in November of 2023. However, I was an organizer for the NEAT Method Houston team for over a year before branching out on my own. I
absolutely loved the organizing side, and I knew I could bring that passion closer to home. Truly, the biggest blessing in all of this, besides the opportunity to learn and grow
as a business owner, has been the flexibility to spend time with my family. NEAT Method has allowed me to find the work/life balance I’ve always dreamed of. I don’t
miss any of my son’s events, we travel when we want, and I can fully dedicate myself to my business, all at the same time.

Have you always been passionate about organizing? When did you know you had a gift
in it? Because boy, you do!
I really should let my mother answer this question. She would tell you I’ve been passionate about it since birth, and she has the stories to back it up! Apparently, I didn’t
play with my Barbies like regular girls. I arranged them by categories – dress style, shoe color, hair color, etc. When my mom decided I was old enough to take on extra
responsibility and put away my own laundry, I responded along the lines of “Finally! I’ve waited my whole life for this!” All this to say, I feel like being an organized person has
always defined me and been a part of my personality. Working as an organizer for NEAT Method, I was able to hone that skill into a true passion, and realized this was
something that could help benefit people’s lives.

What’s your back story- what did you do before launching into this business?
Before organizing, I was in the oil + gas industry (as many Houstonians are). I worked as a reservoir engineering technician (a data analyst) and assisted engineers in data
analysis and data management.

Do you think it prepared you for being a business owner?
I do think my experience in the oil + gas industry prepared me to be a business owner. It was a very number heavy and data heavy role, which gave me an appreciation for
understanding data. As a business owner, you can love the work you do, but if you don’t understand the numbers behind your business, you can quickly struggle or fail.
Best advice for mamas wanting to launch into entrepreneurship? It’s probably not the most fun advice, but make sure you are financially ready to take the
leap of faith. Know the money you need to get started, do the research, have the financial safety net. Once that is in place, then take that leap of faith! It’s ok to be both
practical and romantic about your dreams.

Can you talk to the mom who struggles keeping the house organized and maybe feels
shame asking for help?
Absolutely! As a professional organizer and mom, I understand the struggle of keeping a house organized. It's important to know there’s no shame in asking for help. Start small, focusing on one area at a time, like setting up a drop zone or organizing a closet. Involve your family in the process to lighten the load. I love giving my son age- appropriate tasks that not only help me lighten my load, but also teaches him life skills
and responsibility. If needed, reach out to a professional organizer for support tailored to your needs. At NEAT Method Katy, we support you without judgment and provide
personalized solutions. Remember, asking for help isn't a sign of weakness – it’s a proactive step toward creating a more organized and harmonious home environment for
you and your family. It can really alleviate so much of the mental load that moms tend to carry.

Future plans and hopes for your business?
Currently, I work right along side my team of organizers. If you hire NEAT Method Katy, Lindsay is there on the job leading the way! My hope is to one day have a team (or two!)
that includes project leaders who can complete jobs without me. This would allow me to focus on business development while also providing clients with the best in-home
experience. I love to build up other people and this goal involves me mentoring my team and presents them with opportunities for growth within the company.

Biggest blessing in being a mama?
The biggest blessing in being a mama is truly the small, everyday moments. I absolutely love watching my son experience the world for the first time. Everything he does and learns is happening for the first time, and it is absolutely incredible to witness. Of course, I’m biased, and think he’s the smartest, sweetest, and greatest. Nevertheless, I’m so proud of every new thing he learns – whether that’s a big milestone, a new word, or just something simple.

What does community mean to you?
As a small business owner, community means everything to me. It’s the backbone of my business and I really feel it is the heart of Katy. Community isn’t just about where you live; it’s about the people who make up that place—their support, their connections, and their shared values. It’s about coming together to help each other thrive, whether it’s through patronizing local businesses, volunteering for community events, or simply being there for one another in times of need. In a city like Katy, community is family, and I’m proud to be a part of it.
