Meet Dr. Shruja Patel
When I met with Dr. Patel and some of her amazing team at Complete Care Physicians, I immediately felt their passion for people and their heart for healthcare. Primary care is something so many of us need and yet, for me at least, it’s been hard to find a local practice and/or doctor I felt truly connected to. Dr. Shruja Patel is trying to change this, trying to bring a human first approach and true relationship building with her patients to the forefront.
The boutique style, private practices are disappearing at an alarming rate in the US. Large healthcare systems and private equity (PE) firms are aggressively acquiring private boutique practices, specialty clinics, and hospitals to consolidate market share.
This trend is something we spoke about at length at our first meeting, and seems to be driven by companies like UnitedHealth Group and PE firms, which often aims for high-revenue procedures and cost-cutting, sometimes resulting in higher costs and lower quality of care.
This is also something Complete Care Physicians is trying to change. In a world where profit seems to always go above people, healthcare, you’d think, should be exempt from this. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. Which is why it’s so important to support your local privately owned healthcare systems- and doctors who care about true health, finding root cause, and treating the patient as more than just a number on a spreadsheet.
What I can say is, after years of living in Katy and never feeling like we found a true fit in primary healthcare, we feel so good about establishing care with Dr. Patel at Complete Care Physicians. And we feel so confident telling all the moms who follow here, to do the same if you’re looking or a truly individualized approach to your overall wellness and care.
We got to interview Dr. Patel about her passion for medicine, growing up in Katy and now running a business and practice here in our community, and of course all about being mom to her one year old! See our full interview below!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in the Katy area?
I was born in Houston and raised in Katy, Texas. I am a graduate of Katy Taylor High School and was a Pacesetter once upon a time!
You’re a mama! How many kiddos do you have and what are their ages?
I’m a mama to a beautiful one-year-old, and that has been one of the most transformative parts of my journey. I’m still learning every day how to navigate motherhood alongside my business and my profession, and it’s a constant balance. It’s not always easy, but it’s incredibly rewarding, and it has given me an even deeper sense of purpose both at home and in the work I do.
What’s the biggest gift about being a mom?
I think the biggest gift about being a mom is to experience this unconditional type of love that fills your heart and heals you.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I lived in Europe for 4 years and learned a new language after college.
Favorite local things to do in the Katy/Fulshear/Richmond area?
Dewberry Farms!
What is your go-to activity for yourself for pampering or for fun?
Getting a massage!
Best mom hack that makes life easier?
Honestly? Lowering expectations and celebrating small wins. And always having snacks on hand— for the baby and for me.
Tell us about your journey to becoming a doctor and how did you want to know you wanted to go into medicine?
My journey to becoming a doctor wasn’t traditional, but it’s one I’m incredibly proud of. I pursued my medical degree in Europe, which gave me a unique perspective on both medicine and patient care. Along the way, I also became the first physician in my family, which made the experience even more meaningful.
I was first inspired to go into medicine by a close family friend who was a physician. Seeing the impact they had on people’s lives sparked something in me early on. What started as admiration grew into a deep passion for both the science of medicine and the human connection it requires.
Can you talk about Complete Care Physicians and how you’re unique in the primary care space?
I opened Complete Care Physicians with the mindset of forming unique relationships with patients and their families and becoming a partner in their healthcare journeys.
It’s beautiful to see you’re a women owned practice! How does it feel working along side all of these incredible women and mothers?
It’s incredibly empowering and deeply fulfilling. Being surrounded by such talented, compassionate women—many of whom are also mothers—creates a sense of understanding and support that’s hard to replicate elsewhere. There’s a shared respect for both our professional dedication and the realities of motherhood, which fosters a culture of flexibility, encouragement, and collaboration.
How important is it for you to have an identity outside of being a wife and mom?
Having a child transforms your identity in profound and lasting ways, as any mother understands. It is a beautiful experience, but maintaining a space beyond motherhood allows me to continue pursuing my passion as a physician. That balance is essential for my sense of self and overall well-being.
What are your future plans and dreams for the practice?
My vision for the future of the practice is to continue growing in a way that stays true to our values—providing compassionate, patient-centered care while creating a supportive environment for both our patients and our team. I hope to expand our services and reach more women in our community, while maintaining the personalized approach that makes our practice so special.
Best advice for young girls who want to go into the medical field?
Believe that you belong in medicine and don’t be afraid to take your own path. Stay curious, work hard, and find mentors who support you.
Best advice for working moms who experience the inevitable and dreaded MOM GUILT?
Give yourself grace; perfect doesn’t exist. Focus on small wins, quality time, and remember that taking care of yourself makes you a better mom.
How do you balance it all?
Calendars and schedules!
What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?
I’d tell my old self to be gentle, trust the journey, and know that it’s okay to ask for help and embrace the little joys.
