Meet A Mom: Leah | Katy Moms
Meet A Mom: Leah Opitz, Katy Mama of 3 and Passionate Plexus Ambassador

Happy Meet A Mom Monday, Mamas! Today we’re excited to introduce you to Leah! She’s a Katy mama of three kiddos and so passionate about helping women look and feel their best.
After battling health issues most of her life, Leah decided to take a deeper look into gut health to see if she could heal her body from the inside out, starting with her gut. That’s when she found Plexus, a line of products that focuses on the gut health and have helped people with things like sleep issues, anxiety, weight loss, migraines, and more. Saying she’d never ever join a MLM company, Leah took the plunge into the business side because she truly believed in what the products can do for people. She shares her passion with others and is committed to helping women find health, happiness and balance in life.
Oddly enough, when we first started KMN, we made it a goal to reach out to as many moms in the Katy area as we could and connect with them on social media and Leah was one of the first mamas we started following! Her positive, yet real posts, and light-up-a-room smile are infectious and make her feel like one of your best mama friends. Her enthusiasm for healthy living and spreading her knowledge makes you want to jump, as well!
We got to chat with Leah about mom life, her favorite things about raising a family in our community, and the importance of having passions outside of motherhood.
Check out our interview with her below!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Katy?

I am originally from Benton, AR, a small town outside of Little Rock, and my husband and I both graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Woo Pig Sooie!!!  We have been in Katy for 10 years.
You’ve got 3 kiddos, how old are they and what are their names?

Yes and life is cray with 3!!! Perri just turned 10, Finley is 6 and Reece is 2.

Greatest gift about having a big family?

While its always loud and crazy and I swear someone is always crying or whining, the kids have built-in playmates and keep each other company!! Never a dull moment here what so ever!

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I battled anorexia for nearly 10 years and had to go to an outpatient clinic for eating disorders for 2 years, many therapists and doctors and eventually inpatient in Florida for several months. Recovery is absolutely possible and praise the Lord for that!!! I want to be the best version of myself for my kids and be able to model health to them!
I used to be so ashamed that I dealt with it for so long, but I’ve learned that sharing my journey and battle with an eating disorder is part of my story and if I can help one person then it’s worth it!

Name one thing you wish someone would have told you before becoming a mother.

How much you will lower your standards with each kid!!!  It’s true!! With Perri I was so uptight and crazy scheduled. She never missed a nap at home, I wouldn’t let her wear princess costumes in public and worked SO hard with her on everything so that she knew it super early. #2 came and I loosened up a bit more and by #3, all bets were off. And guess, what? He is learning and thriving and is the easiest going guy!! You learn that you have to relax and go with the flow more or you’ll lose your sanity!!

Favorite local things to do in the Katy area?

Grab a coffee and walk around La Centerra or Target, sans kiddos.. Super glamorous, I know ha!!

What’s your favorite thing about raising a family in this community?

We attend and are active at Second Baptist 1463 and love that its right in the middle of the community, where the kids are able to go to school with and worship with their friends! Also love the great parks and things to do here!

Do you have a favorite family friendly restaurant in the area?

We loveeee breakfast, its our go-to for eating out. Our favorite spot for that is Snooze and Black Walnut.

What is your go-to activity for yourself for pampering or for fun?

Crossfit!! I absolutely love it. It pushes me beyond what I would ever do myself, and the community at my gym (Crossfit 1420) is the best! For pampering I always love a good massage or getting my nails done.

Funniest shortcut/routine for helping you through parenthood?

Getting the kids to help with cleaning! If you make it fun for them they’re happy to help! We have a cordless vacuum and they all think it’s the greatest thing ever to use that and all kids love a squirt bottle! They are (usually) willing to clean counters, windows or tables because they get to spray the cleaner!!!

Best mom hack that makes your life easier?

All clothes picked out Sunday night for the week and lunches made the night before school. The girls are able to make theirs now hallelujah!!! Also I have a Plum Paper planner and write every single thing down in there that we have going on each week. If I don’t I won’t remember and it won’t happen. My husband makes fun of me for not using an electronic one but I’m old school and need to write things down.

Tell us about your passion for Plexus! When did you discover it, tell us how it’s changed your life, and how you’ve built a business out of it!

Haha wellll I said I would NEVER, EVER do network marketing. Ever. BUT, I had struggled with my health for 7 years, seeing multiple specialists and running the gamut on tests and procedures done, and trying the products was my last-ditch effort. I was exhausted, anxious and had autoimmune issues so figured why not?! I was clueless about gut health but, long story short, it was the root of my issues and I am now a totally different person! I began to share with some friends and family what it had done for my health and the business kind of snowballed from there!!
It’s something I never thought I would do but has become the biggest blessing to help others with their health as well as lead a large team of friends doing the same! It’s been something to do for ME aside from being a stay at home mom and the friendships and community have been such an added bonus!! I have had the fun to travel on many trips, earning a cruise this summer to the Bahamas was also super fun!! It’s like girls trips multiple times a year!!

You have a passion for helping people, specifically women and moms, live a healthy lifestyle and live their best life. What’s your favorite part about sharing Plexus with others and seeing their lives improve?

This is why I share Plexus!! I thought that I was going to be sick forever! I know others may not have health issues as extreme as mine were, but I feel like so many of my friends are anxious, exhausted, have crazy sugar and food cravings, migraines, terrible sleep, stomach problems, etc. and so much is linked back to gut health! So, sharing about gut health and how the products work has become a passion to helping others feel better and live their best life! I regularly get messages from friends telling me they now have energy to play with their kids, they’re off medications, are regular in the bathroom (yes I went there haha!) and just able to enjoy life now and that is the GREATEST feeling in the world!!

How has the Katy community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now, in both business and in motherhood?

I think being active in church and finding a group of moms to do life with is so incredibly important!! We don’t have family here, so making great relationships and being active in the community has been so good for us!!

Best advice for moms who are balancing a career or passion outside the home and experience the inevitable and dreaded MOM GUILT?

I think we all have it, you are not alone!! Giving yourself grace is key and setting boundaries with your work!  The great thing about what I do is it is all from my phone, so I am able to do from anywhere, be it home with my kids, shuttling them around to activities, dr appointments, etc, I do make it a priority to put my phone down when they are home from school in the afternoons to focus on them, but it has been so good for them to see me working towards a goal for our family!

Who has most influenced you to be the mom you are today?

I have so many strong women in my family that all played a huge role! My mom of course, has been a driving force and huge help and source of advice, as well as her mom and sisters (she is one of six!!) My dad also has 3 sisters! So many great and influential women in my family that I greatly look up to!

On your hardest parenting day, what’s something you tell yourself that gets you through?

This will pass!! I give myself grace, sometimes I have to go hide out in the pantry (they realized the bathroom is where I used to hide haha!!) and just take a breath and soak in the quiet for a few minutes and can then go back to reality to handle the craziness. Sometimes we just need a few minutes to ourselves to take a breather.

Name one thing you hope your kids look back and remember about their childhood and you as their mama?

I hope my kiddos will be able to look back and see a house full of laughter, craziness, grace and joy!

What would you tell the old “You” before you had kids?

That my perfectionistic personality is going to have to tone down or I would be miserable as a mom! The floors won’t always be clean, dishes will always be in the sink and sometimes your kids will look like rag a muffins and it’ll be ok!!!
