Things to check off your summer list before the kiddos head back to school
If you live in the Houston area, you know by now there is no shortage of things to do, especially with kiddos! And if you’re anything like us, this entire summer has been spent making sure the kids were entertained, engaged, learning and having fun while school’s out.
So many of us make these crazy summer bucket lists, only to find ourselves completely exhausted by mid-July. But mamas, we’re ALMOST there and there are still some fun things you can get out and do with the kids before we ship them back to school.
Here’s a list of some fun local things to do on a budget that we think you’ll love!

Breakfast at Blockhouse & Enchanted Gardens
Richmond, TX
Close to Katy in the cute little town of Richmond sits two spots you can hit to spend a fun morning throughout the afternoon! Blockhouse Coffee has the best coffee and breakfast and an outdoor play area nestled under giant, shady trees.
After you’ve filled bellies with breakfast tacos and muffins, you can head to Enchanted Gardens! Specifically if you have daughters, this place is known as “the fairy garden” and if you go you’ll see why! It’s free and can be a quick or long visit. There are also live animals, gorgeous flowers and plants, and a pond blanketed with lily pads!
Facility Tour at Bahama Bucks
Such a hidden treat we recently learned about from the owners of the Bahama Bucks in Fulshear! They do what are called Tropical Tours where you can bring a group of kids in and get a facility tour.
It’s only $7 a head and the kids will get a tour of the store, learn how they make the sno cones, make their own sno cone, and end with a fun sno ball fight outside!
Just give the store a call the week you’d like to go to reserve your spot! Call (281) 346-8075
Wimberley, TX
We’ve found Wimberley to be such a fun place to take the family and it’s an easy drive. If you want to experience the Texas Hill Country at its finest while also enjoying the beautiful fresh-water river, Wimberley is the place to go. We always rent a house right on the Blanco River, which is enough to keep the kiddos entertained for days! We fish, swim, rind unique river rocks to paint, and explore new areas near the river. You can visit the Chamber of Commerce website for a giant list of things to do! There are many family-friendly restaurants right on or near the river, shopping, tons of cute ice cream shops, and just a beautiful place to be together. A unique place to take the family is Jacob’s Well – a bit of a walk to get there, but once you set your eyes on this space, you’ll see it’s worth it.
